Integrated Navigation System

Introducing a New Business Model for Navigation Based Services

Integrated Navigation System (INS)

INS is a service offering, utilizing Internet of Things technologies.
It is a business model that integrates car users + municipalities + payment companies.
In this business model, the car users are the customer and the municipalities are the service provider.
Municipalities make infrastructure investments to provide intelligent traffic services. Then sell these services to car users to recollect their investment.
The car users can choose to purchase these services.
The payment companies handle on-line transactions.
A short list of services that can be provided are as follows:
1. Parking spot reservation service.
2. Parking spot availability information service.
3. Real-time traffic congestion information service.
4. Real-time speed adjustment service for fuel economy. (shown in video below)
5. Special offerings on the road service. (free for car user, paid to municipality by private companies)
6. Emergency and law enforcement logistics optimization service. (free application for public benefit)

The key technologies of Internet of Things is used for M2M (car<>traffic light) communication as shown below:

A video where our prototype INS communicates with two intelligent traffic lights is given below.
In this video INS informs the driver to accelerate to pass on the green light in the first junction and then it tells the driver the decelerate since it is not possible to catch the green light on the second junction.
